Frequently Asked Questions
What is route optimization?
Route optimization is the process of finding the most efficient route between multiple destinations. It considers factors like distance, travel time, traffic conditions, and specific constraints to minimize costs and time while maximizing efficiency. Our route scheduler uses advanced algorithms to calculate the optimal sequence of stops and provides detailed schedules with estimated arrival times.
How many destinations can I add to my route?
You can add up to 20 destinations to a single route. For larger operations with more stops, we recommend breaking them into multiple routes based on geographic areas or time constraints. The algorithm is optimized to handle complex routing scenarios while maintaining calculation speed and accuracy.
Can I save my routes for future use?
Yes! After generating an optimized route, you can use the download button to save it as a text file. We recommend saving frequently used routes as templates. You can then reload these templates and make minor adjustments for similar routes, saving time on future planning.
How accurate are the time estimates?
Our time estimates are based on standard travel times and average conditions. For more precise estimates, you can adjust the average stop duration and travel speed settings. The algorithm calculates distances between points and applies average travel speeds based on the optimization method you select. For real-time traffic conditions, we recommend checking current traffic before departure.
What's the difference between optimization methods?
The three optimization methods serve different needs: Shortest Distance prioritizes minimizing total miles traveled, ideal for fuel efficiency; Fastest Time focuses on reducing total travel time, considering road types and speeds; Balanced combines both factors to find a middle ground between time and distance efficiency. Choose the method that best aligns with your specific priorities and constraints.
Can I set time windows for specific stops?
Currently, our route scheduler applies a uniform stop duration to all locations. For more advanced scheduling with specific time windows, we recommend using the generated schedule as a baseline and then manually adjusting for appointment times or delivery windows. Future updates will include more sophisticated time window constraints.
Is this tool suitable for commercial fleet management?
Our route scheduler is excellent for small to medium-sized operations with up to 20 stops per route. For larger commercial fleets with hundreds of stops, vehicle capacity constraints, and complex scheduling requirements, we recommend using this tool for planning individual routes while considering a dedicated fleet management system for enterprise-scale operations.
